| Although summertime is the "hot" time
for body piercings, unfortunately, many new to body piercing fail to
take into consideration the question of swimming with a new belly
ring piercing only a short time after getting pierced. So...IS it
ok to go swimming? The short answer is (and we know you
won't want to hear this): NO.
For
optimum healing and safety, you should avoid swimming (especially in
the ocean and/or public pools) for at least 2 months after your new
belly piercing.
Consider this...you've just opened a
hole into your body that all kind of germs and bacteria would just
LOVE to get into. Further, even if heavily chlorinated, all pools
contain bacteria - and public pools contain so much you might as well
(as far as we're concerned) be swimming in a sewer for all the good it
will do your new piercing.
Most coastal oceans are not much
better, as most are so polluted they can be considered health risks
even if you didn't have a new body piercing.
So...the best bet for quick healing and
better health of your new piercing is to allow is to completely heal
before you go back in the water.
If you absolutely MUST go
swimming...insure that you disinfect your piecing thoroughly right
after you get out of the water.
