Rings
Proper care of belly rings is one of the most important aspects of
enjoying them and making sure you can keep wearing them for years to
come. Some people make the mistake of getting belly rings
thinking they are fairly easy to care for, but they require a good
deal of attention during the first three or four months to make sure
they heal properly so that you have an attractive, clean healing that
shows off any belly rings you add to their greatest advantage.
For your initial
piercing, you should use captive bead belly rings. These have a metal
hoop, usually of titanium or surgical steel that is closed with a
small bead held by pressure between the two ends of the hoop. They’re
very attractive and make it easy to keep the pierced opening clean and
germ free during the healing phase.
Newly pierced belly
rings should be cleaned daily during your shower (preferably not a
bath) with a mild antibacterial soap and then rinsed thoroughly,
turning the ring through the piercing each time to make sure the wound
is cleaned completely inside and out. Remove any crusted areas and
rinse the area carefully with warm water and allow to air dry.
With new belly rings,
try not to wear tight clothing over the piercing for the first several
weeks so that the area will have time to heal cleanly. You shouldn’t
take out the piercing ring for the first three to four months. After
that, you can change it up with as many different belly rings as you
want.
Changing belly rings once the piercing heals is simple, and is what
the fun of belly rings is all about!
